LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (KLFY) – A Florida man is arrested following a joint operation involving multiple explosive devices seized and rendered safe, deputies said.

Orlando Burleigh, 55, of Florida, was being sought by the United States Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on active warrants stemming from a Florida investigation involving discharging a firearm into a building and manufacturing and possessing explosive devices, officials said

Burleigh was arrested after Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of Burleigh allegedly shooting a semi-automatic weapon through his a second-story window into an unoccupied nearby residence on September of 2021. Following the incident, Burleigh was charged with shooting into an unoccupied dwelling and discharging a firearm in public or on residential property, deputies said.

Burleigh was located and arrested by federal investigators in the 300 block of Hibou Rd. in unincorporated Carencro on March 3, where he had been residing in a camper, deputies said. Deputies searched and deployed a drone into the camper and discovered materials consistent with the construction of explosive devices were observed.

The Louisiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit responded and rendered the explosive materials safe. Once the scene was secured, SWAT operators entered the trailer and located five firearms.

Burleigh was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the aforementioned outstanding warrants, along with five additional counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies.

This investigation remains ongoing.
