TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee landmark is receiving national recognition.
The John G. Riley House and Museum has been selected as a “Featured Destination” on the Great Florida Road Trip.
This statewide effort is part of the America250 celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The Riley House helps illustrate the contributions of African Americans to Florida’s and the nation’s history.
A sign has already been installed on site, and the museum is being included in a road trip guidebook and on an interactive map.
During Wednesday’s city commission meeting, Ashley Edwards with Tallahassee’s Parks & Recreation department said the recognition is a testament to the work their staff puts into the facility, as well as the legacy established by their founder, Althemese Pemberton Barnes.
The museum also received $30,000 for a historical panel for an upcoming 2026 exhibit, titled The World Wars and Post War Life, showcasing African American veterans.
