TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A guilty verdict was returned Thursday for a man accused of stabbing his girlfriend over a dozen times in October following an argument, according to the Second Judicial Circuit of Florida State Attorney’s Office.

Martin Curry was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated abuse of a disabled adult after a two-day trial, the attorney’s office wrote in a press release. The jury deliberated for two hours before returning the verdict.

The conviction comes in connection to the incident that occurred on October 11. That day, the attorney’s office said Curry stabbed his girlfriend in broad daylight while the two walked together on Aenon Church Road.

Moments later, Curry became angry that the victim “planned to attend church with her mother and after his mother accused the victim of possibly taking her shoes,” according to the release.

The victim claimed that Curry had used drugs, including cocaine and molly, earlier that day.

Following the argument, Curry then stabbed the victim in the arms, legs, chest and repeatedly in the back as she attempted to escape, according to the statement.

In total, she sustained 15 stab wounds across her body, “several of which had the potential to be fatal, though she ultimately survived the attack,” the attorney’s office said.

During the assault, Curry laughed and told the victim he hoped she died just before leaving her on the sidewalk as she bled.

About four to five hours later, the attorney’s office said that Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputies apprehended Curry.

Furthermore, detectives later discovered that Curry had been searching online for “breaking news” and attempted to call the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, the press release wrote.

Curry is expected to be sentenced at a later date.
