TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Over 200 electric utility workers from across the state are gathering in Tallahassee next week for the 25th annual Florida Lineman Competition.
Electric utility workers will compete and demonstrate their technical skills in a series of real-world challenges.
The annual competition showcases electric utility lineworkers and apprentices by simulating on-the-job scenarios such as pole climbs, equipment repair and system troubleshooting.

Mike Crow, a power delivery assistant general manager, said the event aims to improve their skills while also giving the public a chance to see how those workers operate to get power back on after a disaster.
“Hurricane season is a five month strech. We’re 24/7 365. If there’s an outage at 2 o’clock in the morning, our team is responding to it. The skills that they develop and sharpened here, its what translates effective outage restoration on a daily basis,” Crow said.
The competition takes place next Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park. The event is free to the public and starts at 7 a.m. through the late afternoon.
