TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee city commission is voting next week on approving the sale of parts of downtown Tallahassee to develop an apartment and hotel, according to the city’s meeting agenda.

The city is voting to sell just over 5 acres of downtown Tallahassee to a developer, 908 Group, for $11M, per the agenda item. The land is labelled as the 2.41-acre “Chevron” block and the 2.68-acre “Johns” block.

The developer plans to build a 239-unit apartment building and a 144-room hotel with a restaurant.

“On November 19, 2025, the City Commission approved staff’s recommendation to market the 2.41-acre Chevron block and the 2.68-acre Johns block for sale through open market solicitation using a City term contract real estate broker,” the city’s agenda item said.

After multiple bidders, the city and staff from the city’s vendor (TLG), then chose 908 Group’s bid of $11M as a “top-ranked submission”, according to the city agenda.

According to the agenda item, the pros of approving the sale includes facilitating redevelopment, returning property to the tax roll and removing maintenance responsibilities. The cons of approving the sale included a loss of surface parking, volleyball courts and associated revenue.

The City Commission meeting is March 11.
