PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A man in an alleged crisis, believing someone was after him, was arrested after he entered two Port St. Lucie homes while armed with a knife.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) said that police responded to a report of a man armed with a knife who entered two separate homes in the 2000 block of SW Marblehead Way at around 6:30 p.m. on August 29.

When police arrived, they reported that one of the homeowners had managed to disarm and contain the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Clarence Orange, in a laundry room until officers could take him into custody.

According to PSLPD, their initial investigations suggested that Orange was experiencing a crisis, believing someone was chasing him and trying to kill him.

PSLPD noted that Orange lived in a neighboring home, but he was not known to any of the victims involved in the incident.

The report states that Orange first entered a home through an open garage door, where he encountered a woman.

After staring at her briefly, he proceeded into the house, prompting her to flee to a neighbor’s home and call 911, per PSLPD.

Orange then allegedly entered a second home through another open garage door.

PSLPD said that the male homeowner, who was outside mowing the lawn, pursued Orange into the garage.

Orange then reportedly reached the laundry room, where a pregnant woman was present. Police say that she moved to the second floor, allowing the homeowner to confront and disarm Orange, containing him until police arrived.

Port St Lucie Police Department Master Sergeant Dominick Mesiti said that although Port St Lucie is one of the safest cities in Florida it is important for residents to remain vigilant.

“Please lock your doors. Keep your doors shut, you know, be aware,” Mesiti said. “If you do decide to keep your garage door open and your fiddling around the garage or exercising around the garage just be aware of your surroundings because things like this they do obviously happen.”

Orange has been charged with two counts of Armed Trespassing and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is currently held in the St. Lucie County Jail on a $205,000 bond.
