The Miami Woman’s Club commemorates 125 years of civic leadership, cultural impact, and community engagement during one-night-only event.
The Miami Woman’s Club (TMWC), a historic civic and charitable organization with a 125-year legacy of service to the Miami community, will host its annual Legacy Gala in celebration of its quasquicentennial anniversary.
The event will take place on Saturday, November 8, from 5 PM to 11 PM, at the historic Miami Woman’s Club building, located at 1735 North Bayshore Drive, Miami FL 33132. Constructed in 1926, the four-story Mediterranean Revival structure served as the City of Miami’s main library until 1937 and a Red Cross distribution center during the Second World War, earning it a place in the National Register of Historic Places. Its garden courtyard, porte cochere, auditorium, library, banquet hall, formal lobby, wrought ironwork, and ornamental chandeliers are manifestations of TMWC’s status as one of Miami’s founding institutions.
Christine DiMattei, Anchor of WLRN’s Morning Edition, and Helen Acevedo, WLRN’s Anchor of All Things Considered, will serve as the night’s Co-Mistresses and emcees. The gala will unfold across three of Miami’s most iconic venues, all located in the same building and each representing a different chapter in the club’s ongoing legacy:
Casadonna (first floor) – Guests will be welcomed down a red carpet to a cocktail reception with waterfront views by live music by an actor in turn of the 20th century period costume.
The Miami Woman’s Club Ballroom (third floor) – More musical performances and a 1920s flapper will guide participants to the third floor for drinks and light bites before dinner is served in the building’s stunning historic ballroom.
Klaw Rooftop –The evening concludes with a rooftop afterparty boasting panoramic views of Miami’s skyline, live entertainment on Biscayne Bay, and a champagne toast.
“We wanted to create a gala worthy of the Miami Woman’s Club’s 125-year legacy,” said Metris Batts-Coley, President of TMWC. “For more than a century, the women of this club have shaped Miami’s civic, cultural, and social landscape. This celebration is our way of honoring their vision and reminding the community that our story—and our impact—are still unfolding.”
The dress code will be elegant evening attire. Valet parking services are included with the purchase of a ticket. Ridesharing is encouraged for guests who plan to imbibe.
This year’s Legacy Gala sponsors include: Heafy Group, Gancedo Accounting, Casadonna, and Klaw.
