History

Third baseman Nick Verduzco and shortstop Colton Kinnie both delivered three-RBI games for the Hope College baseball team during a high-scoring doubleheader on Thursday in Davenport, Florida.

The Flying Dutchmen lost to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-8 in 10 innings, and 12-9.

In Game 1, Verduzco (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Hackett Catholic) smacked a two-run single in the top of 10 to snap a 5-5 tie, scoring first baseman Cade Seabaugh (Ballwin, Missouri / Ladue Horton) and pinch-runner Luke Anderson (Richland, Michigan / Gull Lake).

Verduzco later came home on a sacrifice fly from Jace DeMann (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian).

Wentworth, however, answered with a four-run rally, batting around against three relievers before Josh Turcotte hit a two-out, walk-off RBI single.

In Game 2, Westworth (4-3) erupted for seven runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth on the scheduled seven-inning game. Six of those runs were unearned.

Kinnie (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Birmingham Seaholm) contributed a two-run double and a run-scoring single for the Flying Dutchmen, going 3-for-5 and raising his batting average to .568.

Designated hitter Charlie Saul (Batavia, Illinois / Batavia) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hope (3-5) continues its Florida trip on Friday, March 6, at 1:45 p.m. against St. Vincent College.
