Disgraced former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary Kristi Noem won’t have to fire up LinkedIn to find her newest job after President Donald Trump announced her new role, replete with a Game of Thrones-style title: Special Envoy for the Shield of Americas. The group is set to hold a summit in Doral on Saturday, where Noem is expected to step into the newly minted role.

In the most high-profile firing since the former The Apprentice star took office again, Trump ousted Noem on Thursday while she was at a speaking engagement in Nashville. The firing came shortly after the Senate Judiciary Committee grilled her about her controversial actions while at the helm of DHS, including a $220 million ad campaign starring herself (a move Trump told Reuters he did not sign off on, despite what Noem told the committee) and the implication that she cheated on her husband with one of her aides.

Trump wrote about the position change in a post on his own social media site, Truth Social, where he also announced who will take over the role at DHS. “I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), effective March 31, 2026.

“The current Secretary, Kristi Noem, who has served us well, and has had numerous and spectacular results (especially on the Border!), will be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere we are announcing on Saturday in Doral, Florida. I thank Kristi for her service at ‘Homeland.’”

Noem spoke about her new role in a DHS news release. “Thank you, President Trump, for appointing me as the Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas – Western Hemisphere,” she wrote. “Secretary Rubio and Secretary Hegseth are incredible leaders, and I look forward to working with them closely to dismantle cartels that have poured drugs into our nation and killed our children and grandchildren.”

While the Shield of the Americas doesn’t appear to be an attempt to recreate the super-soldier serum that gave us Captain America, it does seemingly give Noem the ability to continue her law enforcement cosplaying, since the new role is an initiative for security against narcotics trafficking in the Western Hemisphere, according to USA Today.

According to a Friday news release from the U.S. Department of State, “On March 7, 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will join President Donald J. Trump at the Shield of the Americas Summit in Doral, Florida. The United States will welcome our strongest likeminded allies in our hemisphere to promote freedom, security, and prosperity in our region. This historic coalition of nations will work together to advance strategies that stop foreign interference in our hemisphere, criminal and narco-terrorist gangs and cartels, and illegal and mass immigration.”
