TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Over a dozen students gathered at the FAMU Eternal Flame Friday to protest against the FAMU Police Department’s 287 (g) agreement.
The protest was held by the FAMU Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) group. They protested the 287 (g) agreement that grants the FAMU Police Department the same powers as ICE agents, per a press release.
The students said the agreement endangers university students and that their goal is for FAMU PD’s signature on the agreement to be revoked.

“FAMU is home to many international students who have their safety jeopardized by the very people who claim to protect them. We will not stand idly by as ICE is invited onto our HBCU!” the group said in the release.
According to the release, the group requested a statement detailing the agreement and information on how to stay safe.
