New medical center opens in Madison County

  • March 7, 2026

MADISON, Fla. (WCTV) – Residents in Madison County now have a new place to receive healthcare after a community open house welcomed visitors to the newly opened Madison Medical Center on Friday.

People from across the county stopped by the facility to tour the center and learn about the services it will provide.

Tony Johnson, Director of Center Operations for North Florida Medical, said the center was created to help close the gap in Madison County when it comes to healthcare needs and make it easier for residents to get the care they need close to home.

“Tallahassee is an hour away, Live Oak could be like 45 minutes, Perry is another 45 minutes to an hour away, so just having something local here that’s in your community to help your community, we are definitely excited,” Johnson said.

More news out of the Big Bend:

The Madison Medical Center offers primary care, dental services and a pharmacy on-site, allowing residents to receive multiple types of care without leaving the county.

Johnson says the expansion also comes after the recent closure of Apalachee Primary Care, which left fewer medical options for residents in the area.

“Since we do serve underserved communities, Madison has been one of the ones that are rural and underserved. There’s not many medical facilities here,” Johnson said. “Recently, they just closed down the Apalachee Primary Care, so just with that being said, we want to fill in the gap and serve everybody.”

The facility is a federally qualified health center, meaning it serves patients regardless of whether they have insurance.

Community members like Lula Tweggs, who attended the open house, say the center could help ease pressure on existing medical services in the county.

“It’s very good for this community,” Tweggs said. “It takes some of the pressure off the medical services for Madison County and Madison.”

Leaders say the center is expected to serve between 2,000 and 3,000 people in the community.

Johnson also says the facility plans to expand services in the future, with psychiatric care expected to be added as a fourth service in the near future.
