The Mater Academy Charter Lions will square off against the Hialeah Educational Academy Biggie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mater Academy Charter has nine straight wins, Hialeah Educational Academy has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you’re on the field.

Mater Academy Charter is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Calvary Christian Academy on Friday. Considering the Lions have won four games by more than five runs this season, Friday’s blowout was nothing new.

Bryan Fernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn’t given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter’s box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Leodan Rodriguez tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

Back at the plate, Yodelkis Quevedo was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mitchell Fernandez, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Mater Academy Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Hialeah Educational Academy came up short against American Heritage on Thursday, falling 9-3.

Jose Aviles made the most of his time in the batter’s box despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.

Hialeah Educational Academy’s loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Mater Academy Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.

Hialeah Educational Academy’s pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mater Academy Charter hasn’t had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It’s a different story for Hialeah Educational Academy, though, as they’ve only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain Mater Academy Charter’s hitters?

Mater Academy Charter skirted past Hialeah Educational Academy 11-10 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Biggie turn the tables on them? We’ll have the answer soon enough.
