Jacksonville – Cheryl Walters Kennedy, 77, of Jacksonville, North Carolina passed away on March 3, 2026, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date. 

Cheryl was born on November 25, 1948, in Lumberton, North Carolina to the late Robert David Walters and Mildred Byrd Walters. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Vicki Walters. 

 A 1966 graduate of Lumberton High School, she married Billy Kennedy in 1974.  His work took them to various communities until finding their permanent home in Jacksonville in 1990. She earned her license and worked in real estate with REMAX Real Estate Solutions, Century 21, and Coldwell Bankers until her retirement.  Cheryl was named REALTOR of the YEAR in 1998.  Known for her love for flowers, birds, and shopping, she was kind, sweet-spirited, and generous.  An avid UNC fan, Cheryl wonderfully decorated their home with Tarheel memorabilia.  Above all, her love for all of her family was at the heart of her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Billy Kennedy; siblings, Jerry Walters (Gretchen) of Lumberton, Ronnie Walters (Wanda) of Lumberton, Drina W. Keen (Jerry) of Kannapolis, Angie Bradley (Bob) of Rougemont, Stan Walters of Lumberton, Cathy W. Ammons (Ray) of Clinton, and Carey Walters of Venice, FL, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, along with her extended family members.
