JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A Jacksonville woman was fatally shot after being involved in an argument with the suspect.

Officials said on March 7, at approximately 10:23 p.m., Jacksonville Police responded to the area of Gum Branch Road. and the Williamsburg Parkway for reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Staci Lee Davis.

Officers began checking the immediate area and found Michael Ray Davis Jr., who matched the description of the suspect given by witnesses. Officials said the preliminary investigation revealed that Davis had been involved in an argument with the victim when he fatally shot her.

Davis is being charged with Open Count of Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He is being held with no bond.
