Kennen, an assistant at UNF from 2009-25 before replacing Matthew Driscoll last May, went 7-25 with the Ospreys this season.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — North Florida director of athletics Nick Morrow removed the interim tag from Bobby Kennen’s job title on March 7 and named him the school’s full-time men’s basketball coach.

Kennen, an assistant at UNF from 2009-25 before replacing Matthew Driscoll last May, went 7-25 with the Ospreys this season.

But the UNF administration wasted little time in deciding to keep Kennen. Morrow and Kennen met nearly two weeks ago to discuss the future of the program and how the school is ready to begin participating in NIL and revenue sharing to compensate athletes.

Kennen got the full-time job three days after UNF’s loss to West Georgia in the opening round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament.

In a statement to the Times-Union, Morrow wrote:

“Coach Kennen has led our men’s basketball program the right way – with integrity, accountability and a deep commitment to the holistic development of our student-athletes.

“At UNF, we evaluate our programs through a comprehensive lens and we recognize the challenges mid-major programs face in his era. We believe in Coach Kennen’s ability to win at UNF and we are backing that belief with resources.

“If we want championship-level results, we must pair championship leadership with championship-level support. That is exactly what we’re doing moving forward.”

A Florida native, Kennen started his coaching career in 1993 at Santaluces High as an assistant. He moved onto Williston High School as a head coach before serving as a college assistant from 1998-2025 for Central Florida Community College, Wichita State, Jacksonville, Campbell and UNF.
