Minot State Softball is set to return to action this week as the Beavers travel to Viera, Florida, to compete in the Space Coast Spring Games. Minot State will play eight games over six days, beginning Monday against Malone University at 10 a.m. (ET) followed by a matchup with Ursuline College at 2:30 p.m. (ET). The Beavers will continue tournament play Tuesday against D’Youville University and Thomas More University before facing Saint Anselm College and Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday. The trip concludes Saturday with games against Felician University and Southern Connecticut State University.
Minot State enters the week with a 9-3 overall record after splitting a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Jamestown on Feb. 26. The Beavers opened the twin bill with a dominant 9-0 five-inning victory behind a standout performance from junior pitcher Katie Newberry, who struck out nine while allowing just two hits in her second shutout of the season. Offensively, Sara Van Wickler, Maizy Whitlow, and Brooke Hyde each recorded two hits in the win as Minot State erupted for a nine-run third inning.
Jamestown responded with a 9-2 win in the nightcap, snapping Minot State’s five-game winning streak. Anna LaCount and Navi Brinkerhoff each drove in runs early for the Beavers, but the Jimmies answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and steadily pulled away.
The Beavers will look to build on their strong start to the season as they open tournament play Monday in Florida.
