The San Francisco 49ers could add to their linebackers and cornerbacks rooms this offseason and they are reportedly considering doing so by signing free agents from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons.

San Francisco has four pending free agents at linebacker, a list that includes Luke Gifford, Eric Kendricks, Curtis Robinson and Garrett Wallow.

On top of that, Fred Warner is coming off a significant injury and Tatum Bethune has had issues staying healthy over his first two years in the NFL.

At cornerback, the Niners could use an upgrade on the boundary opposite Renardo Green after Deommodore Lenoir struggled last season.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the 49ers are eyeing Falcons linebacker Kaden Elliss and Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown in free agency.

“The Jaguars would like to re-sign corner Montaric Brown before free agency. If they can’t, San Francisco is among the teams expected to show interest,” Fowler wrote.

“Linebacker Kaden Elliss has fans around the league among the previous staffs he has played for,” Fowler reported. “San Francisco (defensive coordinator Raheem Morris) and Cleveland (defensive coordinator Mike Rutenburg), among others, though Cleveland has interest in re-signing Devin Bush at linebacker.”

Elliss has developed into a quality starting linebacker. He’s serviceable in coverage and is an above average run defender while also being elite when asked to blitz.

Brown is coming off a breakout campaign after giving up a completion rate of 55.9% and a passer rating of 74.3 when targeted last season. He also posted a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 75.5, ranking 14th among cornerbacks.

We tend to believe an addition at cornerback is more likely for San Francisco, but based on Fowler’s report, we shouldn’t rule out a linebacker signing.
