PORT ST. LUCIE – Officials with the PSL Sports Club had positive news regarding the PSL soccer stadium to share with attendees at the St. Lucie Economic Development Council luncheon in early March.

“We are on budget and on schedule,” said Steven Vancore, president of VancoreJones Communications.

Vancore said people keep asking him if this is real (the development of the 6,000-seat stadium in Port St. Lucie) and he tells them the deal is done.

“The stadium development agreement has now been executed, the conceptual design is complete, and the franchise agreement with USL (United Soccer League) has been executed. And we have named the team that will lead the facility and organization.”

Two of those team members are former professional soccer players.

Bernardo Romeo, sporting director, enjoyed a successful playing career in Argentina and Europe, including stints at Hamburger SV in Germany, RCD Mallorca, and CA Osasuna in Spain.

Juan Ignacio Brown, academy director, formerly played for Estudiantes de La Plata and several clubs in Argentina, Portugal, and Bolivia.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Port St. Lucie,” Vancore said.

Also speaking on behalf of the organization was president and co-founder Agostina Galimberti who talked about the launch of the Port St. Lucie Sports Academy.

“The Port St. Lucie Sports Academy will be more than just a training program. It will serve as a development pathway, providing structured coaching mentorship and competitive opportunities for youth.”

Academy try-outs will take place in April.

Galimberti also explained why the organization chose Port St. Lucie for the site of the stadium.

“It was the location, the growth of the population, the community support and the help we received from the city.”

The groundbreaking is expected to take place in fall of this year Galimberti said. “There are many moving parts and our growing team is working every day to bring them together.”

Several city council members were in attendance as well, including vice-mayor Joliene Caraballo.

“We’re very excited about the report PSL Sports Club gave today,” she said. “It just goes to show what our leadership has said from the very beginning, that this soccer club is serious, they’re here to do something great for the community and that they’re here to do it in a fiscally responsible manner.”

According to the organization’s website, Port St. Lucie SC is the vision of co-founders Gustavo Suárez, Paulo Suárez, and Agostina Galimberti, along with a newly formed investment group that includes several strategic investors.

Port St. Lucie SC men’s side intends to kick off in 2027 and compete in USL League One, a growing league in the third tier of the U.S. professional soccer pyramid. A professional women’s team is planned to follow. The $55 million stadium will be located at Walton & One, on U.S. 1 in Port St. Lucie.
