Central Florida nearing 90 before a cold front arrives

  • March 9, 2026

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida will continue dealing with summerlike heat through midweek before a cold front brings a better chance for storms later this week.

TODAY

Temperatures will climb into the mid 80s along the coast, while inland neighborhoods warm into the upper 80s and could even approach 90 degrees.

Storm chances stay fairly low Monday, but a few isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop along the east coast sea breeze this afternoon, mainly south of Cape Canaveral. Any storms that form will push inland through the late afternoon.

Rain chances remain around 20 percent, but a couple storms could briefly turn stronger.

EARLY WEEK

The summerlike warmth continues through Wednesday. Afternoon highs will stay in the mid 80s near the coast and upper 80s to near 90 degrees inland, putting a few record highs within reach.

Each afternoon, the sea breeze will move inland with light onshore winds around 10 to 15 mph along the coast. Most areas will stay dry, but a brief isolated shower cannot be ruled out.

LATE WEEK FRONT

A change arrives late in the week as a cold front moves toward Florida. The front is expected to approach Thursday and move across the peninsula into early Friday.

Moisture increasing ahead of the boundary will bring a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms Thursday, with rain chances around 40 to 60 percent.

BEHIND THE FRONT

Temperatures will ease slightly behind the front heading into the weekend, with highs settling back into the lower to mid 80s. A few showers will remain possible through the weekend as moisture lingers, especially by Sunday and Monday when rain chances may increase again.

Overnight temperatures will mostly stay in the 60s, though a few cooler spots could briefly dip into the upper 50s Friday night behind the front.
