OSAWATOMIE, Kan. (KCTV) – Three people are safe after emergency crews rescued them from a flooded roadway in Miami County.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies, the Osawatomie Volunteer Fire Department, and Miami County EMS responded to a water rescue in the area of 347th Street and Hospital Drive after a driver drove into high water and could not get out.
The occupants included two adults and a juvenile, according to the sheriff’s office. The three did not know how to swim, which made the situation more dangerous.
All occupants were rescued and are safe. No injuries were reported to anyone involved.
The sheriff’s office reminds drivers never to attempt to drive through flooded roadways, noting that even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away. Officials also asked the public to avoid flooded areas and give emergency crews room to work safely.
