Students exercised their First Amendment rights — voicing their opinions and assembling with peers — at a political debate Thursday with several student organizations in Classroom Building II.
The debate started at 6 p.m. in Room 201 and was hosted by the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics registered student organization at UCF. It featured two student-run organizations on opposite sides of the political spectrum: Young Americans for Freedom, which is a conservative organization, and the American Communist Party.
Topics of discussion included Iran’s nuclear program, Israel’s conflict and peace efforts with Palestine, international sanctions on North Korea, China’s growing global influence, Taiwan’s political status and the global impact of Venezuela’s oil industry.
Two debaters from each organization were given 25 minutes to discuss each topic, followed by opportunities for students to ask questions and a two-minute break between discussions.
