GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mizzou softball (7-16, 0-3 SEC) finished the opening series against Florida (26-1, 3-0 SEC) with a 5-2 loss on Monday, March 8, at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Â
The Tigers were swept in their opening series, marking the first time MU has been swept to open SEC play since 2022.
The Tigers got in trouble early in this one, as a single in the second brought home two, but an error on the same play made it a 3-0 start for the Gators. Florida only extended its lead in the fourth as a two-run home run put it up 5-0.
MU struggled on the offensive end compared to the Gators, as it put up two hits through six innings, with the first hit coming from freshman Sidney Forrester in the first, and junior Stefania Abruscato in the fourth.
Junior Marissa McCann started the game and would go four innings, giving up four earned runs – five total runs – as she is now 2-5 on the season. Senior RHP Courtney Donahue and sophomore RHP Rylee Michalak would each pitch one scoreless inning for the Tigers.
In the seventh, the bats started to come alive, as Forrester reached on a walk, before a double from junior Abby Hay put the Tigers on second and third with one out. Freshman Abby Carr kept the bats going, with a two-RBI single, making it 5-2. However, that was the last of it, as Florida completed the sweep.
