Spring break season is here. For some of the Florida schools that have had theirs — FIU and Nova Southeastern — or are on break this week, including the University of Miami, the weather is wonderful.
Hot, mostly sunny skies. Little to no rain. Great for time at the pool and beach or just hanging outside.
But for students who start spring break next week, including those heading to South Florida from UF and FSU, those plans may change.
Here’s what’s ahead:

Expect a run of hot and dry Tuesday into Thursday, with highs up to 86 and cooler early mornings in the low- to mid-70s, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
“High temperatures slightly above normal,” adds CBS Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.
The highs should cling to the 80s into Sunday.

Here’s where UF and FSU students with an eye on a Miami visit next week might want to book some indoor activities this weekend into Tuesday. You may need an umbrella more than that bottle of Banana Boat SPF 60.
Rain chances rise beginning Thursday afternoon at 20% and 40% in the evening.
Friday through the weekend and into the workweek Monday and Tuesday could be wetter.
Forecasters at the weather service call for a 50% rain and thunderstorm chance Friday and Saturday. Sunday and Monday look like 60%. And forecasters at Weather Underground keep thunderstorms in the forecast next Tuesday before the wetness moves on by next Wednesday.
Cold front
Why the possible run of rain?
An approaching cold front is moving in later in the week and that will bring more moisture to the region, according to Gonzalez.
Monday’s temperature range should be 82 down to 68, according to Weather Underground.
Tuesday, the high could reach 76 but the low is forecast at 58. Wednesday keeps it cool at 73 down to 61 on partly cloudy skies.
