PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — One man is dead following a shooting in Port St. Lucie on Tuesday.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD), the shooting occurred near the intersection of Southeast Bolton Avenue and Southeast Delano Road. Upon officers’ arrival to the active shooting situation, deputies found a victim lying on the ground who was suffering from gunshot wounds, and the suspect who was firing shots.

“The officers weren’t close enough to tell who he [suspect] was firing at, at that point. Whether he’s firing in the air, at officers, or somebody else, we’re not clear yet,” said Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk. “It was a brief encounter and confrontation.”

PSLPD says the suspect was eventually apprehended and taken into custody. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation revealed that there was an altercation that occurred inside a home, which spilled into the street and led to the victim being shot and killed.

Police say they believe three people were inside the home when shots were fired and that a third person is being questioned.

No one else was injured as a result of the shooting.
