A new dinosaur figure, along with an old vehicle photo-op, have returned to Islands of Adventure’s Jurassic Park.

Fans of Jurassic Park may recognize this replica of the Ford Explorer tour vehicles featured in the franchise’s original 1993 movie.

In the film, these automated electric tour SUVs transport visitors through the dinosaur enclosures on guided tracks. During a pivotal sequence, one of the Explorers is attacked by a Tyrannosaurus rex after a power failure disables the park’s security systems. The vehicle’s design became one of the most recognizable props in the franchise.

It has been featured previously in the park area alongside the Jeep Wranglers featured in the series, both of which have been occasionally relocated throughout Universal property.

The vehicle is painted in a high-contrast lime green, red, and yellow livery, with the Jurassic Park logo prominently featured on the doors and hood. It comes equipped with off-road tires, a roof-mounted light bar, and black trim.

The rear view reveals a yellow bumper, red upper paneling, and a custom license plate reading “05” with Jurassic Park branding – denoting this Ford as specifically one of the two caught in the T-Rex incident, the other being numbered “04.”

We found the new car just outside of the Jurassic Park River Adventure queue, which is currently closed for refurbishment.

Nearby in the Jurassic Park area, we found this sizable new Triceratops head prominently displayed in the Jurassic Outfitters gift shop.

The head comes roped off with signs of “CAUTION” keeping guests away. The fixture itself is nestled in a diorama of epoch-appropriate-looking foliage.

The Jurassic Park film series began with Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel and expanded into a blockbuster franchise exploring the consequences of cloning extinct dinosaurs through genetic engineering.

The original trilogy (1993–2001) was followed by the Jurassic World trilogy (2015–2022), which revisits the concept of a functioning dinosaur theme park and its subsequent failures.
