“If I can teach them to love music enough that they want to continue it for the rest of their lives then that’s when I know I’ve really done my job,” said Travaglino.
She teaches general music, chorus and leads a modern rock band. She encourages her students to explore all that music can bring to their lives.
“She’s very special,” said Claywell student James Shook. “I’ve never really had such a wonderful music teacher.”
Student Cato Dimitridais also said he enjoys her class.
“She will take time out of her schedule, which just makes me feel happy that I can count on her to help me,” he said.
Travaglino said it is important for her students learn at their own pace but still continue to grow.
“When the students go through this process, they gain the benefits of setting a goal and working towards it. And realizing that you just have to keep going,” said Travaglino. “We’re learning teamwork and dedication. We are learning listening skills, being able to keep a steady beat.”
Travaglino wants her students to be inspired by music, and she’s created a space where they can express themselves
“They don’t have to be the performers,” she said. “They can be the audience. They can be consumers. They can be the listeners and just enjoy what music can do for your soul.”
