A man was fatally struck by a car after falling off his skateboard on A1A in Fort Lauderdale early Tuesday morning, according to police.

The 40-year-old man’s body was found around 3:40 a.m. on A1A and Sunrise Boulevard, police said. Investigators closed A1A during the initial investigation, but it has since been reopened.

Fort Lauderdale’s Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating, said Casey Liening, a department spokeswoman.

Police are looking for the vehicle that struck the man, but investigators have not determined if the case is a hit-and-run, Liening said.

Police have not released the skateboarder’s name, but said he is local and not a spring-breaker.

The department is asking anyone with information about the man or the vehicle to call 954-494-8477.
