STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman was in distress and indicated to law enforcement that she wanted to end her life on Tuesday, prompting a heroic rescue.

According to the Stuart Police Department, at around 9 a.m., officers responded to Roosevelt Bridge, where they found the woman straddling the bridge railing. Stuart Police Detective Leedham was able to keep her engaged and prevent the woman from ending her life.

During a critical moment, the detective was able to grab the woman’s arm and pull her to safety, SPD says.

The police department says thanks to the officers’ quick thinking and compassion, the woman was taken into protective care so she could recieve the help she needed.
