A man and a woman in their 70s were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after police said the man stabbed the woman, then himself, while the two were inside a moving vehicle in Hialeah.
People in the area reported first seeing a car crash before realizing the situation was far more violent.
“It was a crash before, okay? After I saw that, I didn’t think that nothing happened, but then a lot of police start coming in and the guy came out of the car and say he’s killing her, he’s killing her,” said witness Miguel Martinez.
Cellphone video captured the aftermath, showing first responders rushing to treat both the man and the woman as they emerged from the bloodied vehicle.
Victim suffered multiple wounds
According to Hialeah police, the pair were traveling on West 12th Avenue when investigators say the man stabbed the woman, then turned the knife on himself.
“I saw the lady bleeding and all that because he punctured her on the neck, I think on the shoulder and on the chest,” Martinez said.
He described the scene as chaotic and disturbing: “He just went crazy, he was just driving and he went crazy on her. All his shirt was covered in blood and all her shirt was covered in blood.”
Suspect surrendered peacefully
Witnesses said the man ultimately cooperated with police once officers arrived.
“They told him to drop the knife and he surrendered himself,” Martinez recalled.
Both victims were bandaged and loaded into ambulances before being taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their conditions remain unknown.
Police call it a domestic incident
Hialeah police said the case is considered a domestic incident and emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Detectives continue to investigate, and charges are pending.
The identities of the man and woman have not yet been released.
