FLORENCE, Ala. (March 10, 2026) – The University of North Alabama baseball team dropped their midweek matchup against in-state rival Jacksonville State on Tuesday evening at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, 8-3.

North Alabama (7-10) nearly resurged in the ninth inning after a Wes Walker home run in the first at-bat that coupled with loaded bases shortly after. Petey Craska walked to force another run across, but the scoring trend ended with the bases juiced and the tying run on deck.

Six hits were recorded to score the three runs with Jackson Westmoreland snagging the 2-for-4 afternoon. Alongside Walker, left fielder Nash Rippen had his own solo shot in the bottom of the second.

Outside of the trio, Justin Santoyo and Will Millard earned hits for the contest. Pinch runner Jackson Cheek helped score one of the three runs.

Jacksonville State (14-3) stranded 14 base runners for the game with multiple innings of leaving three runners on the bases. The Gamecocks used two innings with three runs scored to take home the win.

The Lions used eight pitchers for the day with Jake Boynar getting his fourth start of the season — all midweek games. Outside of Boynar, Jordan Touhey, Landon Scruggs, Justin Battle, Josh Bowerman, Kevin Henrich and Nico Varlotta made appearances.

Graduate right-handed pitcher Tyler Rice toed the rubber for the first time of the 2026 season. He went 1.0 inning with a strikeout and no hits allowed in the fourth inning.

Rippen’s home run scored him his 14th straight game of reaching base safely.
