SRWMD continues to encourage voluntary water conservation, set to introduce other restrictions

  • March 11, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Suwannee River Water Management District is continuing to encourage voluntary water conservation and voted to implement several new restrictions amid the ongoing drought.

Currently, the district has implemented Phase I water restrictions, but will be upgrading to Phase II restrictions starting March 17.

Phase II water shortage restrictions include the recommendations for all users to voluntarily reduce water use, limit water intensive cleaning activities to those necessary for maintenance, safety and hygiene and reduce the use of overhead high pressure systems.

More news out of the Big Bend:

Regulations under Phase II restrict landscape irrigation to no more than one a week, prohibits HOAs from requiring increased water use to meet aesthetic standards, restricts the use water for cleaning streets, driveways and sidewalks and restricts pressure cleaning to low volume methods.

The new restrictions will begin March 17 and are slated to run through July 31.

The SRWMD includes Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayatte, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor and Union Counties. It also includes parts of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Jefferson, Levy and Putnam Counties.
