Westside residents distraught after 25-year-old woman killed in hit-and-run

  • March 11, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Questions about pedestrian safety came to the forefront after a 25-year-old woman was killed Monday night while trying to cross 103rd Street near Kincaid Road.

Residents who walk in the neighborhood said the roadway already feels dangerous and they want changes.

“My first instinct was to pray for the family and the friends,” Sydnee Wright, who lives near the site of the crash, said.

Wright walks to and from work, and tells News4JAX that she was shocked by the news that a woman was killed after being hit by a car Monday night.

“I think drivers should be more cautious and also pedestrians should be more cautious,” she said. “And I believe that we should have more pedestrian lanes and a lot more walk areas and sidewalks.”

The Florida Highway Patrol said a green 2010 Chevrolet Camaro struck the woman and fled the scene, leaving traffic blocked for hours while investigators worked in the area.

FHP added that they located a possible suspect and vehicle, with later reports from the agency listing the driver as a 68-year-old man from Jacksonville.

One resident named Kendale Ashley said the crash has made him fearful about bringing children outside.

“I don’t even want to come outside no more,” Ashley said. “I’m afraid to bring my kid outside.”

News4JAX has contacted the Florida Highway Patrol for more information about the investigation and is still waiting to hear back.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the agency.
