ORLANDO, Fla. (WFTV) – An argument between a Florida college professor and a student has escalated, resulting in charges of battery and school trespassing being filed.
The incident was caught on video at the Jackson Heights Middle School campus in Oviedo.
Things quickly heat up in the video, where professor Shou Sean Pang can be seen amongst the students.
According to the arrest report, Pang yelled at a boy to slow down as he rode to school on Oct. 14.
When the student told the professor “no,” Pang reportedly followed him onto the middle school’s campus.
Once on school grounds, police said Pang grabbed the boy’s arm and smacked his helmet off his head.
Shortly after, other students can be seen in the video jumping in and pushing Pang to the ground. Police said the professor was accused of attacking a second boy before school staffers stepped in.
“It should’ve never gotten to the point where this adult was able to put his hands on a child,” the unnamed mother of the student said.
The mom said families are concerned about how easily Pang was able to follow the student on campus and attack the kids in the first place.
“School staff, security… As you see over there, there is always a police vehicle there. Where’s the safety for our children?” she asked.
Requests for comment made at Pang’s home went unanswered.
Local media determined he is an associate professor at UCF’s College of Optics and Photonics. The school said the professor is now on paid leave.
Pang’s arraignment has been set for Nov. 18.
