PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, working with local law enforcement, rescued an 84-year-old man with dementia after he went missing for nearly two days in the sprawling J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area.
On March 9, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office alerted FWC that Winston L. Taylor of Port St. Lucie had left his home the previous afternoon and entered the 60,000-acre WMA early that morning.
Eleven FWC officers immediately responded, launching a search using ground units, air support, and drones.

At 4:40 p.m., Officer A.J. Harris found Mr. Taylor’s unattended vehicle off the trail, and about 30 minutes later, Lt. Amy Hayes located Mr. Taylor a few hundred yards away. Officers transported him to the WMA entrance, where Palm Beach County Fire Rescue evaluated him before he was taken to a local hospital. Lt. Hayes stayed with him until his family arrived.
“Our officers do incredible work every day, but moments like this truly highlight the dedication they bring to serving the public,” said Major Michael Davis, South Region Alpha Regional Commander. “Thanks to their persistence and the cooperation of our partners, Mr. Taylor was located and safely reunited with his family.”
