According to an arrest report obtained Wednesday by Local 10 News, the incident occurred just before 4 p.m. Tuesday at Norland Middle School in Miami Gardens.

Police said Tiffany Hayes, an assistant principal at the school, told officers that she was standing at her post outside the school’s main entrance during dismissal when she saw Diliana Quintana Avila walking quickly toward her.

Police said Hayes walked up to Quintana Avila, 40, of Doral, and asked her “How can I help you? Parents are not allowed in the building after 3:20 p.m.”

According to the report, Quintana Avila made a comment to Hayes in Spanish and then threw Gatorade in her face.

Police said Hayes told them she put her hands up and told Quintana Avila twice to stop.

According to the report, Quintana Avila became “belligerent” and entered the campus.

Police said Hayes tried to stop the woman, at which time she threw Gatorade in the victim’s face for a second time.

The report states that an officer tried to “verbally de-escalate” the situation, but Quintana Avila became “increasingly irate” and told the officer “no” when asked to provide her driver’s license.

Quintana Avila was then taken into custody and became “physically resistant” when the officer tried to walk her to his patrol car.

Quintana Avila was arrested on charges of battery on a school employee, interference at an educational institution and resisting arrest without violence.

A motive for the alleged attack on the assistant principal was not mentioned in the arrest report.

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is aware of an isolated incident that occurred after school hours at Norland Middle School involving a parent and an administrator,” the district said in a statement Wednesday to Local 10 News. “Miami-Dade Schools Police quickly apprehended and arrested the individual. This District takes the safety and well-being of our students and staff very seriously and remains committed to maintaining a secure school environment for all.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, Quintana Avila was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,300 bond.
