Tallahassee Police gets $9M pay raise after 4-1 City Commission vote

  • March 11, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee City Commission voted 4-1 to allow for a $9 million pay raise for Tallahassee Police starting in 2027.

The new approved three-year contract from 2027 to 2029 would raise the starting salary to $71,000.

According to the approved contract, the starting sergeant’s salary is going from $91,000 to $101,000. The starting lieutenant pay goes from roughly $109,000 to $120,000.

The vote for the new proposed contract passed with a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Jack Porter voting against.

Porter expressed concern over a provision that she said violates the city’s zero-tolerance drug policy because it would give the Chief discretion to not fire that person. Mayor John Dailey disagreed.
