While Phoebe is a big flamingo greeting and saying goodbye to travelers, TPA just revealed a smaller surprise available through April 6 to people flying in.
TAMPA, Fla. — Travelers flying into Tampa International Airport could be in for a small, pink surprise in the baggage claim area.
TPA posted on social media Wednesday that Phoebe won’t be the only pink bird at the airport welcoming people, as they unveiled a miniature flamingo that looks like Phoebe that travelers should be on the lookout for.
“We’ve had a surprise up our sleeve,” TPA said on social media. “If you’re flying into TPA during spring break, be on the lookout for free mini flamingos at baggage claim on select flights!”
The video showcasing the flamingos included reactions of travelers who were delighted with the small bird as they grabbed one from a pink suitcase. “Oh my gosh,” one traveler said with excitement while holding one of the tiny flamingos.
In the video, TPA tells travelers to keep their eyes open “in case your flight is one of the lucky ones.”
A Tampa International Airport spokesperson told 10 Tampa Bay News that the mini flamingos were designed for TPA and are only available to passengers arriving on select flights.
“We do sell similar flamingo merchandise at the Shoppes at Bayshore store in TPA’s Main Terminal,” the spokesperson for TPA added.
The idea for the mini flamingos came from the TPA Concessions Team, who were inspired by a promotion at another airport, “as a fun way to welcome spring break travelers to Tampa Bay.”
TPA plans to give away hundreds of these mini flamingos over the next couple of weeks, the spokesperson added, noting these have been very popular with guests.
The mini flamingos will be available in baggage claim “between now and April 6 during our peak spring break travel period, so travelers should be on the lookout when picking up their checked bags,” the TPA spokesperson added.
