Florida woman accused of stabbing 76-year-old roommate, veteran, deputies say

A woman was arrested Monday after she was accused of murdering her 76-year-old roommate following an argument, according to reports from WESH 2’s sister station, WBBH.The incident occurred at a Gewant Boulevard residence in Charlotte County.According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Shannon Rose Giblin, 48, was arrested as a suspect in the death of Paul De Wayne Bradley, 76.The victim’s vehicle was missing from the driveway. Detectives later found it in Sarasota County with Giblin. According to WBBH, she was detained at this time.When Giblin was questioned by deputies, they said she confessed to stabbing Bradley, her roommate, following an argument. She then explained she covered him with a tarp and left him there.Deputies said Giblin “realized he couldn’t be helped.”According to WBBH, a friend of Bradley’s, Adam LaFleur, said he suspected Giblin as soon as he heard his friend had died. LaFleur said Giblin claimed to be an at-home caregiver and was only living with Bradley for a week before his death. “Within two or three days, she started doing some strange things. She lied to him about a few things,” LaFleur said. “He caught that right away. So yesterday, he, from what I’ve been told, he, which sounds like Paul, he said to her, ‘You have to leave. You have to be out by 4.’ And it appears that shortly after his, when shortly after he told her that is when she murdered him.”Jody Scharping said she was saddened by the news of Bradley’s death. She said the 76-year-old mentored her son.”They would eat dinner together. Paul wanted to mentor them, came over, asked if it was OK that, you know, he seen something in him and things like that,” Scharping said. “Every time you turn around, you would see him trying to help somebody in the best way that he possibly could.”Both LaFleur and Scharping said they hope Giblin is held responsible for killing their friend, who they said had a heart of gold.”That was a damn good man, a better man than I’ll ever be, for sure,” LaFleur said. “A veteran. Our veterans deserve better than this.”Giblin was arrested and is facing charges of non-premeditated murder and grand theft of a motor vehicle. We can only imagine the pain you’re feeling. And words can hardly express how heartbroken we are and how very sincerely we apologize that this has been thrust upon you. We are so very sorry.”We will, in no way, attempt to deflect blame or responsibility for this crime away from the accused, who is a daughter, a sister, a mother, and a grandmother to those of us who are her family. This is something she will deal with and the repercussions of it, every day, and eventually, before Our Lord God. We only wish the paths that have led us here today could have been altered so many years ago, so as not to have resulted in so many losses for so many people.”Finally, in general, we are once again confronted with the pain and anguish of The Mental Health Crisis, and the demons born of it, that have touched so many Americans, all across this nation.
