TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A tweak to a transportation bill at the Florida Capitol could rename the Tallahassee International Airport after legendary Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden.
The airport rename would be an honorary designation, marked by signage outside the airport.
Sen. Corey Simon, R-Tallahassee, suggested the change on Wednesday afternoon. It passed the Senate and now goes to the House for consideration.

The Senate also passed an amendment introduced by Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, that would designate a stretch of College Avenue in downtown Tallahassee after beloved former FSU President John Thrasher.
If passed, the renaming would apply to the stretch of road between Monroe and the Florida State campus.
Thrasher passed away at age 81 last May after battling cancer. He was a member of the Florida House from 1992 to 2000, serving as the House Speaker for those final two years.
He also served in the Senate before being appointed to be Florida State University’s president.
