CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) —Residents in Cape Coral are raising concerns about speeding on local roads, particularly on Southeast Fifth Avenue. Neighbors say drivers often use it as a shortcut to get from Southeast 47th Terrace to Country Club Blvd. faster.

Emmel Sigtriggshon highlighted Cape Coral Parkway as a major problem area. “My biggest beef is with Cape Coral Parkway here; that street has just gone crazy,” said Sigtriggshon. He mentioned a recent incident involving a flipped car on the parkway.

Diana Lucas, a local resident, shared her thoughts on Southeast Fifth Avenue. “It’s just a really busy street and people use it to cut through to kick country clubs,” she said.

The city’s speed concern map is now filled with nearly 100 reports, with many clustered in southern Cape Coral. Comments describe roads turning into racetracks and warn about speeding near neighborhoods and school bus stops.

Sigtriggshon believes driver behavior is the main issue. “It’s the people themselves. I mean, even though the traffic can be really heavy and burdensome here, if you will. I mean, you’re trying to get to work or you’re trying to get home. On traffic makes it take so much longer people get impatient,” he said.

With reports coming from all over Cape Coral, the map is helping the city identify where residents say speeding is most prevalent.
