Spring has arrived on Pine Island, and the Pine Island Potters’ Guild will be relishing in the island’s beautiful weather at its March 14 show, hosted in the relaxed, outdoor venue of the courtyard at Koucky Studios. Come meet local artists and authors, learn about their processes and shop handmade work — everything on display will be available for purchase.
The venue is small and welcoming, with ample parking and plenty of opportunities to ask about classes and workshops in the area.
Guests can also take a self -guided tour of the working pottery studio on the property.
This fun event will showcase pottery, jewelry, tropical-inspired home décor, paintings, wearable art, books by local authors, notecards and greeting cards. You’ll also find an array of locally made jams, honey, mustards, hot sauces and freshly baked treats — ideal for enjoying on-site or bringing home.
Enjoy live music from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring Pine Island’s own The Fiddler and I.
At 11 a.m., be sure to see the guild’s monthly horsehair raku pottery demonstration by potter Chuck Koucky and some of his pottery class students. Horsehair pottery, as the name implies, incorporates hair from the tails and manes of horses into its design. The random lines and patterns, which are the signature of this style, are created when strands of hair are applied to the surface of a hot raku clay pot just removed from the kiln.

Koucky Studios is at 5971 Bay Point Road, Bokeelia. The show runs from10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
