(Miami, FL) – Former Miami city commissioner Joe Carollo continues to be a drain on taxpayers.
Commissioners voted Thursday to claw back attorney’s fees he racked up in a federal trial he lost.
Now Carollo is suing the city for $1.5 million in lost pension payments.
A federal jury ordered Carollo to pay $63-million in damages to a Miami business for using city resources in political retaliation in 2017. The city will now pay thousands in additional attorney’s fees in an effort to leverage Carollo in his pension case.
The city will now pay $600-an-hour attorney’s fees to sue Carollo, who is asset protected, for attorney’s fees from his federal trial in hopes he will drop his bid to collect his pension.
Commissioner Miguel Cabella argues Carollo already owes millions in damages, he won’t want to pay more attorney’s fees.
