JetBlue Airways is taking another expansion step at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with the addition of more flights to Tampa and Jacksonville while adding departures to Dallas-Fort Worth and to Cartagena, Colombia.

In a statement Thursday, the New York-based carrier, which counts the Broward County airport as one of six “focus cities,” said the additions will take place in June.

The expanded flight schedules include:

Tampa: Twice daily year-round, increased from once a day.
Jacksonville: Once daily year-round, increased from a seasonal Spring Break schedule.
Dallas-Fort Worth: Twice daily year-round, increased from once a day.
Cartagena, Colombia: Daily, up from four times a week.

The Colombia additions will start June 11. The expansion for the Florida and Texas cities will take effect June 18.

“These additions reflect the strength of demand we’re seeing in Fort Lauderdale and our continued commitment to building depth in our South Florida focus city,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president, revenue, network and enterprise planning. “We’re proud to continue investing in Fort Lauderdale with more year-round flying and added frequencies, ensuring it remains one of the strongest and most connected cities in our network.”

Fort Lauderdale was the New York-based carrier’s first destination when it started service nearly three decades ago.

JetBlue operates mainly out of Terminal 3. It is leading the construction of Terminal 5, which will be the center of its airport operations.

The airline says it has added 20 destinations from Fort Lauderdale and “operates the most departures of any airline” at the airport, serving “dozens of nonstop destinations across the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.”

But airport data shows JetBlue remains in second place in passengers carried at Fort Lauderdale, behind Dania Beach-based Spirit Airlines, which is reducing operations as it reorganizes under Chapter 11 protection of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

For January, Spirit remained No. 1 with a 25.5% market share, with JetBlue closing the gap at 21.4%. Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines achieved shares of 12.2% and 9.1% respectively.

Overall for the first month of the new year, the airport’s passenger traffic rose by 1.1% at 3,044,962. In 2025, overall traffic dipped by 8.5% to 32.2 million.
