PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – Breeze Airways celebrated the inaugural flight from Orlando International Airport to Pensacola International Airport Thursday, continuing an expansion that began when the airline launched service at the airport in June 2024.
“Breeze started in June 2024 with two flights a week to Tampa,” Payne said. “They are now operating as of the July schedule this year 25 flights a week to seven non-stop markets — so a huge growth to markets where we need additional service.”
The new Orlando route currently operates twice a week, on Sundays and Thursdays. Breeze plans to expand that service to four flights a week in July.
Assistant Director of Strategy and Development Todd Payne said the airline’s continued investment in the Pensacola market carries broad regional impact.
“When you see an airline come in like Breeze has and continue to build and invest in a market like Pensacola, it’s fantastic because it affects all of what we do,” Payne said. “It affects our tourism, it affects our business, it affects our military — it’s a very positive economic element in our region.”
Airport officials said a direct flight to Fort Lauderdale is also in development, which would give travelers additional in-state options.
“It’s great for the state because as you know it’s a long drive to several of the major cities in the state,” Payne said.
Passengers were on hand early Thursday to board the first Orlando-to-Pensacola flight.
