CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)—A woman is left unsure who to turn to after police say a hit-and-run crash came to a stop inches from her home.

Cape Coral police are still searching for the suspect who left the crash that happened on Gator Circle off Northeast 35th Street.

Ludy Lane said she woke up to a loud bang just after midnight. When she walked out of her door, the entire neighborhood was standing in her yard looking back at her in disbelief.

A big truck was parked on its side inches from hitting her home.

“Inches from my home if my husband was touching this wall or breaks the wall it could be much worse,” Lane said.

Lane says the danger comes from drivers speeding around the corner.

“Speeding every day … early morning you hear them rushing going to work or school,” Lane said.

Her neighbors echo Lane’s concern. The road is only 35 mph.

However, Lane’s neighbor Nate Dorch sees drivers going twice as fast.

“People come through here 60, 70 miles an hour, sometimes you can hear the wind coming off the car,” Dorch said.

The crash woke him up. He quickly realized he didn’t have power, then when he walked outside he saw why.

“That one right there. It’s cut in three pieces,” Dorch said. “One still in the ground, and then in between the transformer, and that piece that was still there was laying right over there in front.”

Dorch says he knows when drivers speed past the curve because he can hear it.

“When people can’t make the turn, they’re going too fast. You can hear them hit,” Dorch said. “They hit the median. Hear tires screeching.”

Lane has to figure out what she needs to do next. At the same time, she’s pleading with drivers to keep her neighborhood safe.

“We don’t want anyone to lose their lives because of speeding…and not only speeders but people who go to the bar and get drunk,” Lane said.

Lane pointed out white paint on her lawn that wasn’t there before the crash. She says the truck was carrying white paint and it must have spilled out after the crash.
