PENSACOLA, Fla. — The state of Florida returned $88 million in forgotten funds to state residents in February.
The “Florida Treasure Hunt” website is a clearinghouse for unclaimed money and property turned over to the state.
In Pensacola, there’s $2.6 million in unclaimed property returns.
Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia says cash may come from an insurance policy, or an old security deposit.
Jewelry and other valuables from safe deposit boxes are also listed on the site.
“This record-breaking month of unclaimed property returns mean more money back into the pockets of Floridians,” Ingolia said. “Our Division of Unclaimed Property is working tirelessly every day to return lost assets to their rightful owner. I encourage all Floridians to check out our website and see if they have unclaimed property waiting for them.”
