A New York native, McLean is one of the most revered and respected songwriters in American history. After paying his dues in the New York club scene in the late ’60s, he went on to score mega-hits like “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night),” “Castles in the Air” and many more. Madonna, Garth Brooks, Josh Groban, Drake, Weird “Al” Yankovic and countless others have recorded his catalog of songs.
The transition to international stardom began in 1971 with the release of “American Pie.” “American Pie” was recorded on May 26, 1971, and a month later received its first radio airplay on New York’s WNEW-FM and WPLJ-FM to mark the closing of the Fillmore East, the historic rock and roll concert venue.
“American Pie” was issued as a double A-side single in November 1971 and charted within a month. Because of McLean’s FM-underground career, which started with “Tapestry,” the “American Pie” album was played extensively on FM radio. This caused AM radio to play the full eight-minute song at the No. 1 position. “American Pie” then became the longest song ever to become No. 1. The single “American Pie” and the album “American Pie” were an international sensation.
McLean continues to receive honors for his musical discography.
“As a songwriter your songs are like your children, and you are hopeful everyone loves them as much as you do, but rarely is that the case,” McLean said. “I am so grateful that songs I have written have touched so many lives and have been recorded by so many great artists.”

The Four Tops became one of Motown’s most consistent hit makers with songs like “Baby, I Need Your Loving,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” “Reach Out (I’ll Be There),” “Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I’ve Got)” and many more well-known hits. Foster’s musical journey is as eclectic and vibrant as her soulful voice. Born into a family steeped in gospel tradition, her earliest influences were the voices of her mother, grandmother, and the gospel singers she grew up listening to — artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. However, her path to becoming a solo artist wasn’t a straightforward one. Despite a deep love for music, Foster initially shied away from the spotlight, preferring to play guitar, piano, and write songs for others.
Growing up in the rich musical tapestry of Gause, Texas, Foster found herself drawn to the diverse sounds and arrangements of local gospel choirs and musicians. Despite her reluctance to take center stage, her talent was undeniable, and her mother encouraged her to step up and sing out. She stood out as a young black girl with a guitar in a choir scene dominated by pianos, but with her grandmother’s vocal coaching and encouragement from her mother and the church community, she recognized her own power — as a songwriter, a musician, and as a captivating singer.
Turning down a major record deal in pursuit of authenticity, she has stayed true to herself and her vision as an artist, signing with independent label Blue Corn Music to release “Runaway Soul” in 2002, followed by “The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster” in 2007, “The Truth According to Ruthie Foster” in 2009, “Let It Burn” in 2012, “Promise of a Brand New Day” in 2014, “Joy Comes Back” in 2017, and “Healing Time” in 2022. She has also released three live albums.
Now, with five Grammy nominations to her name, Foster has achieved a long-awaited milestone: her very first Grammy win. Her latest album, “Mileage,” released on the legendary Sun Records, won Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards — a triumph not only for Foster, but also a historic first-ever Grammy win for Sun Records.

His rare and unique abilities only further epitomize the wealth of talent, glamour and unquenchable energy that is Las Vegas.
In addition to his live prowess on stage, Newton has long since established himself as an accomplished and sought after actor — both on television and the silver screen. Discovered as a kid by actor Jackie Gleason who became his mentor, Newton’s first roles as a kid on “Bonanza” and “The Lucy Show” blossomed into adulthood. Armed with three albums, constant tours, and a five-piece band behind her, Dean struts onto every stage with the confidence and vulnerability of a songstress that has cemented her place among the top rank Texas tunesmiths. Her live show takes the concert goer on a ride of original songs blending bravado, vulnerability, and a novelist’s eye for detail. Whether with her full band or all by herself, listeners and watchers are treated to an authentic, funny, and honest storyteller performing her way into legendary status.
There is indeed a rawness and a reality to Dean’s songs which sets her apart as a songwriter of real substance. Her candor is palpable in every syllable and sound of her acclaimed albums, “Bad Romantic” and “The Biggest Life,” both profound, vivid documents of the songwriter’s might. It’s no wonder Texas legends like Bruce Robison, wanted to produce her album based on the strength of Dean’s simple iphone-recorded demos, calling her work “bracing.”
Dean has been steadily gaining momentum since the release of her break-out 2021 LP “Bad Romantic.”
Dean’s devotion to honesty in the making of her second album, “The Biggest Life,” extended in its creation. It’s 13 songs recorded completely analog at The Bunker, Robison’s Lockhart studio, with a hand-picked band of collaborators. It’s a fitting approach for music that leaves nowhere to hide and spares no detail.
