TAMPA, Fla. — A U.S. KC-135 refueling tanker was lost over Iraq on Thursday, according to U.S. Central Command. 

Two aircrafts were involved in the incident, officials say. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely. 

It happened in friendly airspace during the Iran operation, known as Operation Epic Fury. CENTCOM said this was not due to hostile or friendly fire. 

Rescue efforts are ongoing, officials say.

There is a fleet of KC-135s that call MacDill Air Force Base home. 10 Tampa Bay News has reached out to the 6th Air Refueling Wing to find out if this is one of their aircraft and crew, however, they referred us to Central Command without comment.
