Man armed with knife killed in Sweetwater officer-involved shooting
SWEETWATER, Fla. — Police say a domestic disturbance call Wednesday night in Sweetwater ended with officers fatally shooting a man who was armed with a knife.
According to the Sweetwater Police Department, officers were called around 6:30 p.m. to the 11000 block of Southwest Seventh Terrace about a domestic altercation between a married couple.
Police said the man involved was armed with a knife.
“When they arrived to the scene and they got to the residence, they were able to see a female at the residence and a male armed with a knife,” said Sweetwater police spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta.
Authorities say a confrontation happened between the man and officers, and police were forced to shoot the 30-year-old man, killing him.
“The female was transported to a local hospital because there was noticeable bruising and she’s 5 months pregnant,” said Zabaleta.
Neighbors said they were surprised by the large police presence in the usually quiet area.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now leading the investigation.
