To the editor:
Having been “dissed” in June for the charter committee by Council member’s stake holder appointments, I find that all these stakeholder committees are handpicked. Just like the Vacation Rentals stake holders who were 90% Realtors. Thank you, Council member Kilrane, and your violation of your campaign promise.
Regarding the proposed charter changes, another step backwards — why do we have to mandate a year’s residency to run for office? Are we paying for Patti Cummings’ violating the law? Justice has been served. No need to change the charter.
This is another ploy to eliminate citizens from the political process. Shall we check to see if the candidate has a mortgage on the house?
I highly recommend that Cape Coral citizens show up to the Public Hearings and speak against this limitation of the First Amendment and our rights. Remember your right to Citizens Input has been put last for a “business meeting.” Whatever that means.
I cannot support these Charter changes. Vote No in the November election for charter revisions including the handsome pay raise for Council Members should that come forward. This is a civic duty, not a high-paying job.
